Our Work

GTO’s five priority areas connect law and policy reform with human rights, essential services, environmental action and disaster resilience.

SDG 16

Rule of Law & Legislative Reforms

Research-based legal review, legislative drafting, advocacy, stakeholder consultation and institutional capacity building.

GTO reviews laws affecting women, children, transgender persons, persons with disabilities and the environment, then uses evidence and consultations to support legislative and policy reforms. GTO drafted the Punjab Child Abuse Prevention and Response Bill 2022 and facilitated drafting of the Punjab Protection of Rights of Transgenders Bill 2022. It also contributed to reforms connected with free and compulsory education, protection of women against violence, domestic workers and child marriage. GTO trains police officials, lawyers, journalists, civil society, prosecutors and public officials to strengthen the rule of law and human-rights protection.

Human & Democratic Rights

Awareness, inclusion, legal support, voter registration, civic participation and rights-protection networks.

GTO raises awareness among transgender communities, women, children, persons with disabilities and minorities, while sensitizing youth, citizens, media, police, civil society and officials. It has facilitated more than 31,000 rural women to obtain National Identity Cards and voter registration, established a Trans-Rights Protection Network, supported child participation through Children Clubs and organized community, sports and media activities to promote dignity, acceptance and democratic participation.

WASH, Basic Health & Education

Sanitation, health awareness, HIV prevention and treatment, non-formal education and child-labour reduction.

GTO constructed household toilet blocks for 55 extremely poor households and toilet facilities in government girls’ schools, while conducting health and hygiene awareness. It works on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment for transgender communities, connects community leaders with health departments and builds the capacity of trans-led organizations. Through non-formal education and vocational support, GTO has also helped reduce hazardous child labour and support working children and their families.

SDG 13

Environment & Climate Change

Environmental law awareness, citizen engagement, youth action and evidence-based advocacy.

GTO conducts awareness sessions on environmental laws and engages youth, lawyers, children, civil-society organizations, media and other stakeholders to reduce pollution and support climate action. It reviews environmental laws to identify gaps and develop need-based advocacy campaigns, and participates in the Grow Green Network-Pakistan.

SDG 11

Disaster Risk Reduction & Management

Emergency relief, health and hygiene, medical support, youth training, response and rehabilitation.

During disasters, GTO provides food, non-food items, clothing, sanitation kits and health facilities, with particular focus on women, children and older people. It also trains local youth in response and rehabilitation. During the 2022 floods, GTO supported affected communities in Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh through relief distributions, health and hygiene awareness and free medical camps.
